DAYKIN, Neb. (AP) - A southeast Nebraska school superintendent is resigning amid an outcry over his behavior.

Meridian Public Schools Superintendent Russ Gade (gayd) was accused of using inappropriate language and gestures, using chewing tobacco on school grounds and showering with students.

He told the Lincoln Journal Star (https://bit.ly/MmsDVj ) on Thursday that the school board voted 6-0 to accept his resignation. He says he’ll remain in the post until his contract runs out in June.

Gade denied using inappropriate language but acknowledged flipping off a student during a friendly conversation. He says he chewed tobacco on school grounds but only during home football games.

He also says he used a common shower area that adjoins two boys locker rooms. Gade says it was sometimes used by referees, other school staffers and some students.
