PRAIRIE RONDE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Southwestern Michigan authorities say a 34-year-old man fatally shot himself following a chase by law enforcement in Kalamazoo and St. Joseph counties.

The Kalamazoo County sheriff’s department says it responded about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday following a report that the man from Kalamazoo County’s Brady Township was threatening to assault a number of people with a baseball bat. He fled before officers arrived.

The department says the man returned about 3:40 a.m., threatening to drive his vehicle into the home, and shots were fired inside the home. He drove away and officers chased him into St. Joseph County and back into Kalamazoo County, where he shot himself in Prairie Ronde Township.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died. His name wasn’t immediately released.
