PELL CITY, Ala. (AP) - Police say a woman whose son died in a pit bull attack was approached by a pit bull while she was visiting his grave over the weekend.

Pell City police Capt. Joshua Herren tells WBMA-TV (https://bit.ly/1lNWSmZ ) Johna Harvard was visiting her son’s grave when she was approached by a pit bull on Sunday. Harvard’s 5-year-old son was killed in a dog attack in April.

Harvard says the dog charged at her twice and she ran to her car and called 911.

Herren says the dog also charged at an officer who was backing away from it and the dog was fatally shot.

Herren says Pell City doesn’t have a leash law. Harvard says her son’s death and the incident at the cemetery show that a leash law is necessary.
