MAGNOLIA, Miss. (AP) - Magnolia voters will choose from three candidates Tuesday in a special election for mayor.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

The candidates are retired schoolteacher Della Pierce, businessman Anthony Witherspoon and former alderman candidate George E. White.

The winner takes office immediately and will serve the remaining three years on former mayor Melvin Harris’ term.

A runoff, if needed, will be held July 15.

Harris, a former longtime alderman, became mayor in 2008 after winning a special election. He was elected to his first full term in 2009 and re-elected last year. He resigned in May.
