NORTH AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Fire officials say a man who was shot multiple times rang the doorbell of the North Amityville firehouse to get help.

Fire Assistant Chief John Harley tells Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1o2zyQs ) that the man had three bullets in him.

Police are investigating whether the victim was shot several blocks from the firehouse around 3:15 p.m. Monday.

Hatley says investigators also are looking into whether the man was driven to the firehouse. He says there was no blood on the sidewalk.

The victim was hit in the leg and the side of his chest. He was taken to a hospital. His condition wasn’t immediately known.
