PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities say a teenage boy drowned while swimming with friends in a northeastern Philadelphia creek.

Police said the 15-year-old youth was in a section of Frankford Creek in the Juniata Park section of the city shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday. Officials said he was swept beneath the surface and disappeared in about 10 feet of water.

Officers and fire rescue crews responded and found his body about 20 minutes later. The victim’s identity hasn’t been released.

Police are warning adults and children about the dangers of swimming in city creeks and urge people to stay out of the water despite the warm weather.
