INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - One of Gov. Mike Pence’s top aides is returning to the private sector after a year and a half in the governor’s office.

Pence announced Monday that Deputy Chief of Staff Marilee Springer would be returning to the Indianapolis law firm Ice Miller. Springer was a tax lawyer at the firm before joining the governor’s team.

Springer played a key role in Pence’s education and jobs skills policies. She was an early member of his policy team when he ran for governor and joined his administration after he won office in 2012.

Springer clearance from the State Ethics Commission to return to work at Ice Miller last June. Instead, she took a new job and title with Pence working with the state’s executive branch agencies.
