MARIANNA, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania borough councilman has been jailed on charges he fired shots at his neighbor before driving drunk to get away from state police who responded.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 34-year-old Jeremy Berardinelli, a councilman in Marianna, a tiny borough about 30 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter ( ) says troopers heard Berardinelli yelling that he was going to kill his neighbor, though they didn’t explain precisely why the councilman was upset.

Police say Berardinelli fired several shots, none hitting his neighbor - and that the councilman claimed they were only “warning shots.” Police nonetheless charged him with aggravated assault.

Police pulled over Berardinelli moments after he left and say tests show he was too drunk to drive.

He faces a preliminary hearing July 30.
