DA: Boston bar owner covered up patron’s injury

BOSTON (AP) - Prosecutors say the owner of a Boston bar lied to investigators and tampered with evidence after a 20-year-old man from Ireland suffered severe head injuries in a tumble down stairs at the establishment.

John Rogaris, owner of Roggie’s Brew and Grille in the city’s Brighton neighborhood, was released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty Wednesday to charges including withholding evidence and misleading an investigator.

Prosecutors say after the underage patron fell down the stairs on May 23, Rogaris told employees to carry the man outside and call 911. The employees never called 911, and the man, identified by his lawyer as Dylan Fitzgibbon, was found outside by a passer-by.

Authorities say Rogaris also tampered with his bar’s video surveillance system.

Rogaris’ lawyer says his client has “a spotless record.”
