WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) - Authorities say a 31-year-old man shot by police at a West Jordan shopping center Thursday is in critical but stable condition.

West Jordan police Sgt. Dan Roberts says an officer responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Jordan Landing shopping complex a little after midnight on Thursday.

He says the officer found two men, one of whom was Timothy James Peterson, who matched the description of a man wanted by police.

Roberts says Peterson fled and shots were fired, injuring Peterson. No one else was harmed.

Roberts says police are not ready to release information about how many shots were fired and by whom. He said he did not have information about the second man.

The officer, whose identity has not been released, is on administrative leave while officials conduct a standard shooting investigation.
