LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The situation with a wildfire burning southwest of Laramie in the Medicine Bow National Forest continues to improve.

On Thursday, authorities lifted their advisory that area residents stay in their homes.

The day before, firefighters extinguished spot fires created by the wildfire that has burned almost a square mile near Lake Owen.

The fire began Monday and is 80 percent contained.

The fire is about 30 miles southwest of Laramie and is burning in mostly large beetle-killed timber.

There are about 175 firefighters on the scene who are being supported by helicopters dumping water from Lake Owen on hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
