LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities in Los Angeles are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a 4-year-old boy and injured his 23-year-old mother.

The California Highway Patrol says the woman was pushing the child in a stroller Thursday evening in the Florence area when they were hit by a red 2013 Toyota.

City News Service says the car was abandoned a short time later, with both the male driver and a female passenger fleeing.

The passenger was later apprehended but the driver remains at large.

The boy’s mother was identified in a CHP collision report as 23-year-old Brianna Puryear. Her condition was not immediately known.

Investigators say she was pushing the stroller in a pedestrian crosswalk when they were struck.
