THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - An Aug 16 trial date has been set for a Thibodaux man indicted in connection with the death of his girlfriend, who police say was shot during a March 23 standoff.

The Courier of Houma reports (https://bit.ly/1zsuH2y) that 22-year-old Skylleur Hayes was indicted in the case last month. He is being held on a charge of second-degree murder. Conviction would carry a life sentence.

Twenty-two-year-old Barbara Baker was shot inside her apartment at Senator Circle, a public housing complex for low-income families. Police arrested Hayes after a standoff at the apartment. Baker’s 1-year-old son was released unharmed.
