RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Transportation officials say the Bayview-Aurora ferry run is shutting down for the upcoming weekend for repairs.

A statement from the Ferry Division of the N.C. Department of Transportation says the route will be closed on July 12 and 13 to allow repairs to be made to the ferry slip on the Bayview side.

The repairs require the division’s Skyco crane barge to be placed in the ferry slip, which will prevent the ferry from docking at the terminal.

A weekend shutdown was determined to be the best option for the work, as the Bayview-Aurora route is primarily used by weekday commuters crossing the Pamlico River.
