RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) - In another expansion of its service line beyond mobile telephones, C Spire says it will offer home automation services to areas where it’s installing high-speed Internet lines.

The Ridgeland based company announced the move Wednesday, saying the C Spire Home service would launch in areas of Ridgeland, Starkville and Quitman where it’s installing fiber optic lines. The company is seeking Internet customers in six other Mississippi towns.

C Spire says the services will allow customers to control thermostats, security, lights and other functions remotely using a phone, tablet or computer.

In recent months, the company has acquired two business service providers and started building a $23 million commercial data center. C Spire, owned by Telapex Inc., is controlled by the Creekmore family and is the nation’s sixth-largest wireless provider.
