LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Bobby Dower, managing editor of Lake Charles’ American Press, has died.

The newspaper reported (https://bit.ly/1tt9apQ) Dower died Wednesday, after being hospitalized for two weeks with stomach cancer.

The 62-year-old Dower started working at the American Press in 1971. He became sports editor in 1976, news editor in 1993 and managing editor in 1996.

Members of the Louisiana Sportswriters Association recently presented Dower with the 2015 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame distinguished service award in sports journalism in his hospital room.

Dower was a former president of the Louisiana Sportswriters Association, on its Hall of Fame selection committee and a board member of the Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editors.

A Crowley resident, Dower is survived by his wife, two children, a sister and two brothers.

Funeral and burial will be Saturday.
