BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Friends, family and Idaho political leaders paid their final respects to former Gov. John Evans at the Idaho Capitol on Friday.

Evans, who was Idaho’s governor from 1977 to 1987, died Tuesday at age 89. He was one of Idaho’s last Mormon Democrats and achieved statewide political success.

The Idaho Statesman (https://bit.ly/1s4VLmm) reports that he was lying at the state capitol Friday afternoon where Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter, Secretary of State Ben Ysursa, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, Treasurer Ron Crane and former Govs. Dirk Kempthorne and Phil Batt attended.

Evans’ wife, Lola, children and grandchildren also attended the viewing.

Evans will be buried Saturday in his hometown in Malad following a memorial service at the LDS Second Ward Church.
