MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say a street gang member has been convicted of second-degree murder and several other felonies in an August 2011 shooting.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 25-year-old Carlos Gonzalez was found guilty Thursday of killing 17-year-old Miguel Villa during a late-night altercation in a restaurant parking lot.

The victim’s brother testified that a group of men attacked them and their friends with a baseball bat and a pipe. Gonzalez opened fire, striking Villa and causing the crowd to scatter.

Investigators said they recovered 11 shell casings from the scene.

A jury convicted Gonzalez of second-degree murder, three counts of attempted second-degree murder, one count of reckless endangerment, three counts of aggravated assault, one count of assault and three counts of employing a firearm while committing a dangerous felony.
