PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Local artists will transform 16 utility boxes throughout Pawtucket with their original designs.

WLNE-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1s3ctTb ) that a volunteer arts panel is accepting applications from artists who want to participate in the Pawtucket “Paintbox Project.”

The project, organized by the Advisory Commission on Arts and Culture, is modeled after a similar endeavor, the Art Transformer Project, in Providence. Both projects seek to celebrate local artists and beautify neighborhoods.

Artists must be 18 years old or older and live or have a permanent office or studio in the city. Contact the city of Pawtucket for more information or to apply.

The deadline is Aug. 14
