TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A former food service manager at Munson Medical Center will spend six months in jail for embezzling money from the Traverse City hospital.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1qRg4lj ) that 43-year-old Jeffrey Ales also was sentenced Friday in Grand Traverse County’s 13th Circuit Court to three years’ probation.

Ales also must pay $21,000 in restitution to Munson.

He pleaded guilty last month to embezzlement. Ales worked as a senior manager for company contracted to provide the hospital with food services.

Court documents have shown Munson officials counted $27,500 in personal purchases that Ales made in the hospital’s name.

The newspaper reports that Ales told Judge Philip Rodgers Friday that the theft stemmed from addiction issues.
