HOLBROOK, N.Y. (AP) - A highway patrol officer is hospitalized with serious injuries after a pickup truck struck his patrol vehicle on a Long Island highway.

Suffolk County police say the crash happened on Sunrise Highway in Holbrook around 11:40 a.m. Friday as the officer waited for a vehicle that was reportedly weaving.

Police say that vehicle turned out to be the pickup truck.

The officer was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital. Police did not name him.

Police identified the driver of the pickup truck as 23-year-old Jason Rosenzweig of Montauk Point. They say he sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment at the scene.

He’s been issued summonses for reckless driving and unsafe lane change.

An investigation is continuing.
