CINCINNATI (AP) - A southwest Ohio prosecutor says three people who are not U.S. citizens are charged with illegally voting in the November 2012 election.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters says a grand jury indicted 64-year-old Carmen Lockhart, 49-year-old Bernus Charmont and 61-year-old Jean Gobeil in Cincinnati on Thursday.

Deters says each of those Hamilton County residents was indicted on one count of illegal voting. He says all three are in the country legally but are ineligible to vote because they don’t have U.S. citizenship.

Court records didn’t immediately show attorneys for the three defendants.

They could be sentenced to up to 18 months in prison if convicted of the felony count.

Deters says the case started with an investigation by the Ohio secretary of state.
