SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A Caddo Parish jury has convicted a Shreveport man of second-degree murder in the July 2010 stabbing death of a man whose bloodied body was discovered in a hotel room.

The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1r2W6pt ) the jury deliberated about 45 minutes Thursday before finding Demario Thomas guilty. He’ll be sentenced Aug. 11 to mandatory life in prison.

Thomas did not take the stand.

Prosecutors were able to connect Thomas to Gregory Scott Bowers’ murder through DNA evidence left on a knife used in the stabbing.

Prosecutors say the 44-year-old Bowers was stabbed more than 50 times.

They say robbery was the motive in Bowers’ death.
