ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Illinois Department of Transportation says two bridges over the Mississippi River at St. Louis have reopened after being struck by a barge trying to navigate the rain-swollen river.

The agency says there was no serious damage to the either structure.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon. The barge struck a pier of the Martin Luther King Bridge and brushed the Eads Bridge.

Both spans link Illinois to St. Louis.

The bridges were closed briefly so crews could assess them for possible damage.

No injuries were reported.
