EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man has been ordered to spend eight years in federal prison for robbing a convenience store last year.

Twenty-five-year-old Jahrastafar Jamal Farmer of Fairview Heights also was sentenced this week to three years of post-prison supervised release and must pay more than $200 in restitution.

Farmer pleaded guilty to guilty to robbery charges.

Authorities say that during his robbery last November of the Moto Mart store in Fairview Heights, Farmer ordered an employee and customer to the floor at gunpoint before fleeing with the cash he’s now ordered to repay.

Prosecutors say text messages found on Farmer’s cellphone indicated he was having financial difficulties.
