RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - NC Quick Pass and the Turnpike Authority is warning motorists in several states of an email scheme in which people are asked to pay an outstanding toll balance.

The N.C. Department of Transportation says the emails include a link directing customers to an invoice or payment portal.

The department says NC Quick Pass will never request payment via email, and users should verify the authenticity of any sender before clicking a link.
