LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky Air National Guard unit that has served around the world has been honored as one of the best in the military.

The 123rd airlift wing received a flying wing for the 16th time since 1970 for its service in Afghanistan and Iraq. The military bestowed the honor Sunday at a ceremony at Male High School in Louisville.

WAVE-TV in Louisville (https://bit.ly/1q9Poyh ) reported that he ribbon has been added to a flag holding the unit’s commendations.

The 123rd is the most decorated airlift unit in the Air National Guard.

Command Chief Master Sgt. Ray Dawson says the unit is one of only three in the Air National Guard that has 16 such awards and only 10 percent of the units actually receive an outstanding unit award.
