SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a Syracuse man charged with arson last month faces upgraded charges after a woman injured in the fire died from her injuries.

Syracuse police say 52-yeaer-old Beverly Palmteer died last Thursday night at Upstate Medical Hospital.

Officials say she was sleeping in her apartment early on the morning of June 18 when 56-year-old Patrick Kelley of Syracuse set fire to her home. Kelley was arrested two days later and charged with arson.

Police say the case will be referred to an Onondaga County grand jury for a possible upgrade in charges.

Authorities say Kelley was arrested after police surveillance cameras caught images of him setting the fire.

Police say Kelley has an extensive criminal history, including several arson arrests. He’s being held in the county Justice Center.
