CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Coast Guard has called off the search for a diver missing off the South Carolina coast after searching for more than two days.

Capt. Ric Rodriguez with Coast Guard Sector Charleston says the search ended Monday evening.

Authorities say 18-year-old Tristen Allen was reported missing Saturday after he dove from a boat about 13 miles southeast of Folly Beach.

The Coast Guard used planes, helicopters, small boats and cutters to search almost 2,800 square miles of ocean. That’s an area roughly the size of Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley counties combined.

Coast Guard searchers from as far away as North Carolina and Georgia participated in the effort.
