GRANDVILLE, Mich. (AP) - The western Michigan city of Grandville is going to allow liquor sales on Sundays.

City Council voted Monday to lift the city’s ban. An ordinance change allowing Sunday sales is scheduled to take effect July 27.

The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/1kslkpM ) the vote came after local business owners asked city leaders to repeal the ban. They said the change would allow them to fairly compete with businesses just outside the city limits that already could sell liquor on Sundays.

Grandville residents voted in 2006 to approve Sunday sales of beer and wine.
