NEW YORK (AP) - A 26-year-old Queens man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole in the fatal shootings of his parents while they slept in bed.

Shane Jaggarnauth was sentenced on Tuesday after being convicted in May on murder charges in the 2011 deaths of Sugrim and Rosie Jaggarnauth in their Springfield Gardens home.

The father died instantly after being shot in the head. The mother was wounded, but managed to call 911 before being shot three more times. During the trial, the mother’s harrowing 911 call was played in court.

Jaggarnauth also called 911 shortly after the shootings to report that he had been shot in the shoulder by an intruder who killed his parents.

Prosecutors say Jaggarnauth was motivated by greed.
