COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A flash flood warning has been issued for much of southern Colorado, and lightning is being blamed for a Colorado Springs fire that damaged a home.

KRDO-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1t6kft2 ) that US. Highway 24 in Manitou Springs was closed Wednesday evening. The highway is near a burn scar left by the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire.

A handful of people had to be rescued from cars that were stuck in flood water in Colorado Springs. No one was injured in the house fire.

A flood warning continues for the Arkansas River at La Junta until at least Thursday afternoon. Minor flooding has been reported.

Heavy rain also caused problems closer to the Denver area. Flooding near Evergreen affected nearby homes and knocked down power lines, according to the Evergreen Fire Department.
