FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Five people have been slightly hurt in a North Texas apartment complex fire where some victims jumped from the second story to escape.

The Fort Worth Fire Department says the blaze broke out before dawn Wednesday and was brought under control after about an hour.

Authorities are trying to determine what sparked the fire at the La Jolla (HOY’-uh) Terrace Apartments that destroyed 12 units and left a dozen others damaged.

MedStar EMS spokesman Matt Zavadsky (zuh-VAD’-skee) says four adults suffered minor injuries while evacuating, including two who jumped from the second story. The other two adults suffered smoke inhalation. All four were taken to hospitals to be checked out.

A fifth person was treated at the scene for a minor burn.
