GAUTIER, Miss. (AP) - The Gautier City Council has approved a base bid of $2.1 million by The Creel Co. for a million-gallon-per-day ion-exchange filtration system.

The system will remove the brown coloring from Gautier’s water supply.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1rg2Znw ) construction will begin within 60 days and the system is expected to be up and running in 18 months.

The council also discussed this week revisions to the city’s smoking ordinance.

Councilman Rusty Anderson presented the revisions, which would allow smoking in bars and in restaurants with a designated smoking room and proper ventilation.

The council passed the revisions 5 to 2.
