FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) - The Davis County Commission chambers are now sporting the motto “In God We Trust” in 5-inch-tall gold letters on the dais.

The Standard-Examiner reports (https://bit.ly/1oYJ6Ov ) the display, which sits above a gold Davis County seal, was unveiled on Tuesday.

Commissioner Louenda Downs says a California-based group called In God We Trust - America Inc. had sent a request to the commissioners encouraging them to display the national motto as part of an effort to revive the slogan. Davis was among the first Utah counties to respond.

Commissioner Bret Millburn says the lettering doesn’t advocate a particular belief, but recognition of a higher power.

John Mejia of the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah said he’s not “super comfortable” with the setup, but says it’s unlikely his group will challenge it.
