GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A former Kent County assistant prosecutor has been arrested on accusations he tried to rape a woman on a date.

Sixty-one-year-old Mark R. Vandermolen was booked into the Kent County Jail on Tuesday. He’s charged with assault with intent to commit sexual penetration and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The Grand Rapids Press says a 41-year-old woman reports Vandermolen tried to force her to have sex Friday.

At his arraignment Wednesday, Vandermolen told Judge Jeannine LaVille that he plans to represent himself. The judge gave him a $10,000 bond and scheduled a probable cause hearing for July 31 before a visiting judge.

The jail says he was in the process of leaving on bond Wednesday afternoon.

The Associated Press has left phone and email messages at his Grand Rapids law office.
