ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - A University of Georgia professor has been cast of the host of a new weather and climate show on the Weather Channel.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/W8hgFR ) Marshall Shepherd, a former NASA scientist, is going to be the expert host of a show called “WxGeeks” which stands for Weather Geeks.

The newspaper reports the show is expected to debut on Sunday. The show’s executive producer Mike Chesterfield told the newspaper he hopes the show can “be as geeky and technical as an offline conversation between geeky weather people would be.”

Shepherd and Chesterfield say they also hope the show can help educate the public and lawmakers about weather and climate.
