CENTERPORT, N.Y. (AP) - A popular wedding venue is set to close after a bankruptcy operating trustee determined the Long Island business “cannot continue to operate.”

Trustee R. Kenneth Barnard says the historic Thatched Cottage in Centerport will close on Oct. 6.

He says letters have been sent to couples whose weddings were scheduled after the closure date to give them as much time as possible to find a new venue.

Barnard was appointed on July 4. He took over managerial control from longtime owner Ralph Colamussi who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January. Colamussi cited costs associated with Tropical Storm Irene and Superstorm Sandy.

His attorney tells Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1p6ZFq1 ) that Thatched Cottage representatives are looking into selling the business.
