BELDING, Mich. (AP) - The Ionia County Dive Team used a search for an old gun that was tossed into a lake as an opportunity to test its evidence recovery skills.

The Sentinel-Standard of Ionia reports (https://bit.ly/1rgtSYz ) officials were told that the stolen 1911 Colt pistol had been thrown into the water off of Bridge Street in Belding.

In a statement, the sheriff’s department says the dive team searched in the water for about an hour Saturday before finding the gun.

The Ionia County Dive Team is a multi-agency team consisting of members from the sheriff’s office, local fire departments and private citizens. The dive team typically handles calls for water rescues, evidence recovery and the recovery of bodies.
