BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - The owner of a holiday-themed park in southern Vermont charged with animal cruelty has filed for bankruptcy.

Federal documents say Lillian E. Billewicz, owner of Santa’s Land, has requested Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection. She says most of her debts are business debts.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports (https://bit.ly/1t0x1cv) that Billewicz recently bought the Route 5 theme park in Putney but has not reopened it.

She and the caretaker of the property have pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges.

Officials have said numerous deer died at the park and other animals were malnourished.
