HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. (AP) - A small plane has crashed in Somerset County short of a runway at Central Jersey Regional Airport.

The FAA says the single-engine amateur-built Auriga aircraft plane came down around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday in a yard off Sunnymeade Road in Hillsborough while it was trying to land at the Central Jersey Regional Airport in Manville.

The pilot, 73-year-old Victor Holmlund of Hillsborough, suffered undisclosed injuries and was hospitalized in fair condition. He owns the plane and was the only person on board.

Video from WABC-TV shows the wreckage of the plane upside down in a field with extensive damage, but with its fuselage mostly intact. The plane landed next to a patch of trees separated from the runway by railroad tracks.
