SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A Spokane County sheriff’s deputy has been fired after an internal investigation found he billed a local business for off-duty security work he didn’t do.

Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said Tuesday that Deputy Charles Sciortino’s conduct was unbecoming.

The Spokesman-Review reports (https://is.gd/U1V8Px ) that Knezovich said the deputy left his post at an electronics retail store last November to work patrol but billed the store for a full 12-hour shift. An internal investigation revealed other similar incidents. The deputy was fired Monday.

Mike Ricketts, of the Spokane County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, said the union’s attorney is reviewing the firing.

Sciortino was hired in 2008.
