STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Officials in Steamboat Springs are warning residents that bear activity is picking up.

The Steamboat Pilot & Today reports (https://bit.ly/1rrNFSf ) that bears got into or attempted to get into three homes on Monday.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says that all three cases involved windows or doors not being secured. No one was injured.

In one case, a resident reported a bear came through a kitchen window, left muddy footprints and tried to eat a cookbook.

At the second home, a bear knocked the box fan out of a main-level window and got partially into the home before it was scared away by the resident.

At the third home, a bear came through a kitchen door, ate some bread and spices before being scared away by the resident.
