LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Dona County authorities say a female inmate is expected to recover from injuries she suffered when she jumped from a second-floor railing at the county detention center.

Officials say the 24-year-old inmate was attempting to commit suicide Wednesday when she jumped and landed head first on the concrete floor below.

County spokesman Jess Williams says Laura Delhierro is hospitalized in stable condition at an El Paso hospital where she is being treated for injuries that include including a broken nose, a broken elbow and multiple lacerations.

Williams says Delhierro was arrested July 5 in the stabbing of a younger sister during an argument at a Bering home.
