DENVER (AP) - A Denver man has been charged in federal court for allegedly pointing a laser at the Denver police helicopter.

Federal prosecutors announced Thursday that a grand jury indicted 26-year-old Nathan James Finneman for aiming the laser at the aircraft three times in April 2013.

Authorities say the helicopter known as Air One has technology that helped identify the source of the laser, which led authorities to Finneman.

U.S. Attorney John Walsh says pointing a laser at an aircraft is not a harmless prank because it can blind the pilot and also endanger people on the ground.

Walsh’s office says Finneman faces up to five years in prison if he is convicted.

Court records do not say which attorney will represent him.
