COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A former Grundy County Sheriff’s Department captain has surrendered to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation after being on charges of stealing handguns from the department’s evidence room.

WVLT-TV in Knoxville reported (https://bit.ly/1rti0ji ) that TBI Special Agents began investigating 33-year-old Deke Matthew Stone on August 1, 2013.

Investigators say they found information that Stone took three handguns from the department’s evidence room.

Stone left his job with the department before the TBI case began.

A Grundy County Grand Jury charged Stone with one count of official misconduct and one count of theft over $1,000.

Stone was released after posting $7,500 bond on Wednesday.

A valid phone number for Stone could not be immediately found Thursday morning.
