ATLANTA (AP) - An Atlanta children’s hospital is planning to tear down a vacant 19-story hotel to make way for a clinical service expansion.

Vice President of Facilities at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Donnie Reed tells WABE-FM (https://bit.ly/Uekne2 ) the shuttered Executive Park Motor Hotel near I-85 and North Druid Hills Road is a suitable location because of its freeway access and proximity to two of the hospital’s other facilities.

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta paid $9.6 million for the hotel last year and is expecting to begin tearing the building down this fall.

Reed says it’s not yet clear what clinical services will be housed in the new building.
