WILMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - Illinois officials now estimate that land needed for the proposed Illiana Tollway project will not be purchased before winter.

According to the Southtown Star (https://bit.ly/1p0aOdy ), Illinois Department of Transportation officials told a crowd at Wilmington City Hall on Wednesday that the federal record of decision needed for the project has been pushed back and now isn’t expected before late winter.

Officials said the project cannot move forward without federal government approval.

Homeowners whose houses may be bought to make way for the project say they’re now in limbo. Some like Bernard Benson of Wilmington complain that the state has ignored their opposition to the project.

The tollway would run 47 miles between Wilmington and Lowell, Ind.
