HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) - A western Michigan nature center will expand with the help of a $40,000 community foundation grant.

The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/1srY43b ) Holland officials will close on a house next to the DeGraaf Nature Center in August. The house is expected to sell for $123,000.

City officials accepted the grant from the Community Foundation of the Holland-Zeeland Area on Wednesday. The rest of the purchasing money will come from donations and a nature center founding grant.

The city plans to tear down the house and use the property to improve the center’s entrance. It also will expand the driveway to allow for school buses.

City park leaders say the nature center has about 9,000 visits a year from kids on school field trips. About 7,000 visits result from nature programs.
