LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) - The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says a 2-year-old boy was injured when he was struck by a water bottle thrown from a passing vehicle.

A statement from the sheriff’s office says deputies responded to a call from a man who told deputies that he and his son were walking on the side of the roadway when someone threw a water bottle from a late model Chevrolet Malibu.

According to the statement, the boy was hit in the nose Tuesday evening, causing a 1½-inch cut. The boy was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The water bottle was taken as evidence and will be fingerprinted.
